The Candy Wagon

When it comes to fleet customization, PTR turns standard units into jobsite powerhouses. The Candy Wagon Framer, also known as a crummy truck, is a specialty utility vehicle built to meet the real-world demands of linemen and utility crews across the country.

This full-sized framer is equipped with heavy-duty 3,500lb capacity overhead racks, multiple HD J-hooks, a 100-gallon fuel transfer system, a DP winch and other jobsite-ready features tailored for utility and power transmission work. Designed with the end user in mind, the Candy Wagon reduces the need for additional support units and increases productivity where it matters most: on the job.

The Origins

The Candy Wagon wasn’t built by accident. It was developed from the ground up in partnership with the people who use it every day. As more crews deployed our framer units, recurring upfit requests began to surface. Our leadership recognized an opportunity to design a heavy-duty, ready-to-work truck tailored specifically for linemen.

From the beginning, we worked directly with field teams who understand the demands of the job better than anyone. The first iteration wasn’t perfect, and we didn’t expect it to be. Over time, we tested and refined the unit using different winches, overhead racks, workboxes and configurations. Every evolution of the Candy Wagon was driven by real feedback and hands-on field testing.

The Impact

The Candy Wagon is built for smarter storage, safer operation and greater efficiency. Features like a lit passthrough box and both underbody and above-body storage with locking systems help reduce the need for additional trucks to haul gear and materials. A 12,000lb hydraulic double-pull winch with a capstan drive on the front bumper allows crews to move heavy loads and precisely position equipment, making it an ideal solution for utility teams.

Safety remains a top priority, with four-corner strobes, secure footholds and handholds that support three points of contact and intuitive controls like an in-cab joystick and optional foot pedal for streamlined operation.

The PTR Difference

At PTR, we don’t settle for “good enough.” Innovation is our standard, and our customers drive how we build. We treat your fleet challenges like our own, working to listen, collaborate and refine until we get it right. Whether you need a custom upfit or are building something entirely new, our team is ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
